How to: Galaxy Print Clothing

OK so today's post is going to be a little different than usual, it's going to be about how to make galaxy print clothing! I know this is a makeup blog and this has nothing to do with makeup but sometimes it's nice to mix things up, right? 

I'm going to start off by listing what you will need, then I'll get to the process! 

You will need:

• Acrylic/ Fabric paint in various colours (black, white, purple, grey) 
• Paintbrushes 
• A sponge (makeup sponges work)
• A toothpick or cotton swab 
• An item of clothing you wish to work on (jeans, shorts, t-shirt, leggings, etc.)
• A plate

Method

• Place the item of clothing you are working with on a flat surface, this will ensure everything stays even.
• Put small amounts of each of the colours of paint on the plate. You can also mix the colours together to have more variety. (Mix some white with the purple to get a lilac shade or add black to get a darker one.)
• Dip the sponge into the lilac paint and start dabbing it all over the piece of clothing, it doesn't have to be perfect or have full coverage because you're going to be adding more colours later. 
• Using the same sponge (or a different one), repeat the process but with a different colour paint. This time go for a slightly darker purple.
• Keep repeating this process, (each time using a slightly darker shade) until the whole piece is covered. You can also add in some grey paint to break up the colors a bit.
• Leave it to dry for a few minutes. 
• Next we're going to start adding in the stars, so take a toothpick or the end of a paintbrush and dip it in some white paint. Dot it all over the piece of clothing in random places.
• Next taking a wet paintbrush and some more white paint, splatter it all over the piece. This will give the look of more smaller stars. 
• After you do this you should have a piece of clothing with a print that somewhat resembles a galaxy!

This was just a plain black vest top that already had paint splattered on it, so I decided to cover it up with even more paint!

And these were a black pair of jeans. I cut them into shorts, studded them, painted them and sewed little stars onto them, this was the finished product.

Marilyn Monroe Zombie Look

So as you can see from the previous post, Me and Nicki took part in Dublin's Annual Zombie Walk! 

For this you can go as whatever sort of zombie you want, be it a regular one or a character of some sort. After struggling to figure out what I was going to go as I settled on Marilyn Monroe.

In this post I'm going to show you how I achieved this look. This could come in handy as an idea for Halloween, or a walk that you may be going to. I know they have zombie walks in different countries too!

Makeup

For the Marilyn makeup you will need:

• Foundation
• Concealer
• Bronzer
• Blush
• Red Lipstick
• Neutral colored eye shadow
• Light brown eye shadow
• Black gel eyeliner
• Mascara
• Pressed powder
• White eyeliner (base)

For this side:

I applied my foundation, concealer and powder as normal. 

I then applied some white eyeliner to my eyelids as a base for my eye shadow. Using the neutral colored eye shadow I applied this all over my eyelid, then I cut my crease using the light brown eye shadow.

Using a black gel eyeliner I did a thin line across my lash line and winged it out. I then finished off with some mascara. 

I then added some red lipstick and a signature beauty mark. 

I contoured this side of my face with some bronzer and then to finish I added some blush.

(From looking at pictures of Marilyn Monroe I could see this is how she usually wore her makeup.)

For the zombie makeup you will need:

• Black acrylic paint 
• Foundation (any cheap one will do)
• Maroon colored eye shadow
• Black eye shadow
• Talcum powder
• Red acrylic paint
• Fake blood/ red food dye
• Liquid latex
• Black thread 
• Paintbrushes/ old makeup brushes 
• A makeup sponge 
• Tissue paper

For this side:

I mixed some black acrylic paint with some foundation and applied it to my face using a makeup sponge (it doesn't need to look even because when you're a zombie perfection is the least of your worries.) I then used an old powder brush to apply some talcum powder over the paint to set it. 

Using my finger I applied some maroon eye shadow around my eyes, I then added some black eye shadow for a more "sunken in" effect. I also contoured this side of my face with some black eye shadow.

For the scar down my face I started off by drawing a line where I wanted it to be with some liquid latex and a thin paintbrush. I then got a strip of tissue paper and placed that over it. I waited for the liquid latex to dry and using a thin paintbrush I started to paint the tissue with red acrylic paint. I also added in some black paint in places to make it look darker. 

For the stitches I cut up small pieces of thread and stuck them with liquid latex the whole way down the scar in an "X" shape. 

I then went back and added some fake blood around my mouth as a finishing touch!

Hair

Using my hair straightener I curled my hair towards my face and simply finished off with some hairspray.

Dress

For this you can either buy a cheap dress that resembles one Marilyn Monroe has worn or you can do what I did and make one out of old bed sheets. 

I would go into detail about how I made it but to be honest I don't know how I did. I just cut the material up, wrapped it around me and pinned it in place. It doesn't need to be perfect as it's going to get ruined with blood anyway.

Look dead... The zombies are coming!

Before I get into anything, I have to mention that this wasn't a random thing! Didn't wake up one day and decide to play dead. My friends and I all took part in Dublin's annual Zombie Walk. 

Zombie walk isn't just a freaky day for people to dress as the living dead and scare the living shit out of strangers and tourists, it has a function. It's function is raising money for 2 amazing Irish charities, The Irish Cancer Society & Barnardos (I'll enter links to both charities websites at the end).

The intention for the day is to get as many zombies as you can, walking the streets and collecting money off the shell-shocked passersby. All round it's an incredibly fun day! 

So, this blog post is just a look at what I did for that day. My make up, what I used, wore and roughly how much it cost me. So let's go.

Cheek wound, pre-zombie apocalypse 

In this look I used:

• Liquid Latex (€2.99)
• Toilet tissue (1 ply) 
• Cheap brown eyeshadow 
• Cheap black eyeshadow 
• Fake blood/ red food dye (€1.50- €3)
• Cheap paint brush (80c)

How I did it:

- First thing is, I did my regular foundation routine. No exception. Just threw on some foundation, helps the liquid latex come off a little easier when you're done. 

- I then got a white eye liner and mapped out where I was going to be sticking the latex, it doesn't have to be perfect. 

- I got a cheap brush, one that I didn't like because the liquid latex with completely ruin your brushes, and I put on a layer of liquid latex to my skin where the white liner was and filled in the space between.

- I then placed toilet tissue over it and picked off the excess, making it to the texture and look that I wanted.

- I repeated the above two steps until I was happy with it. 

-After the liquid latex dries enough, took about 15-20 minutes for me,  I powdered the latex with talcum and started doing shadows and depth with brown and black eyeshadows. 

- After doing shadows, I covered the whole thing in fake blood, the more shadow and depth in it the weirder and more realistic it'll look! 

Tips:

• I highly recommend using cheap and unloved brushes when using liquid latex. They will get totally ruined. 
• Make sure you have checked that you're not allergic to liquid latex. A hospital trip would totally bring down your day, don't you think? 
• I wouldn't apply liquid latex in and around the eye area, not so much in fear of getting it into your eye, but that fact that when you're taking it off it can be quite painful the closer to the eye it is. 

Here's some pictures of the actual day itself. On the left is me, and my full on look. In total I have cuts all over my body, legs chest etc. And I was wearing a white shirt, skirt and hold up socks. Never wear anything you're fond of to zombie walk, there's a lot of blood going around on the day. 

Big up to my brothers friend Banksy for letting me loose on his arm. The scar is made up of liquid latex, tissue and blood. It's incredibly simple but a little messy!

            

All in all, it's a class day. I recommend it to anyone who loves dressing up, making new friends, or just wants to do something awesome for 2 great charities!

I decided to do a makeup look inspired by Marina Diamandis (Marina And The Diamonds). Obviously I look absolutely nothing like her, but I thought it would be fun to do! :) 

For this look I used nearly all drugstore or affordable brands. 

I used:

• Collection 2000 Colour Match Foundation in Ivory
• Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in Light
• Beauty UK eye shadow collection pallet in number 4 
• Avon Glimmerstick Brow Definer in Blonde 
• Catrice Skin Finish Compact Powder in Transparent 
• Essence Quattro eye shadow in "To Die For"
• Kiss eyelashes in 01 Diva 
• Essence eyeliner in White
• Inglot AMC Gel Eyeliner in 77 (black)
• Essence "all eyes on me" Mascara in Soft Black

1. I started off by applying my foundation, concealer and powder. 
2. Next I filled in my eyebrows.
3. I primed my eyes with white eyeliner.
4. Using a blending brush I applied some light brown eye shadow to the outer V of my eye and blended it in. 
5. Using the same brush I applied a dark brown eye shadow in the same place and blended the two together. 
6. Using a gel eyeliner I did a thin winged line. 
7. I then applied some fake eyelashes on my top and bottom lashes. For the bottom lashes I cut a pair into small sections and applied 3 thin individual lashes. I went over the lashes with mascara so they would blend into my natural ones. 
8. Then using my black gel eyeliner I drew a small heart under my left eye. 
9. To finish I put my hair in some rollers and heated them to add some voluminous curls to my hair for an added effect. Of course this is totally optional! 

I hope this look was somewhat helpful, once again I know I look nothing like her this was purely just for fun!

How To Apply Loose Glitter

Glitter is probably one of the nicest things that can be added to any makeup look, the only downside is that it's a pain to try and apply. The biggest problem with it is trying to get it to stick without moving and preventing fallout. In this post I'm going to show you how to fix both of these problems!

I recently learned a handy tip and that is that moisturizing eye drops can be used as an adhesive for loose glitter. Thankfully I had some handy so I was able to test this out beforehand for the sake of this post. I also used some MAC fix plus in the same way, but since that stuff is €16.50 a pop I think the eye drops are an easier and cheaper alternative! 

I first of all applied some glitter to my hand without anything there. As you can see it is very dispersed and not very eye catching. 

I then applied some fix plus to an eye shadow applicator, dipped it in the glitter and applied it to a different part of my hand. The fix plus stuck most of the glitter together and made it easier to apply, it also kept most of it from moving out of place and made washing it off easier because it came off all together instead of separately.

Next I applied some of the moisturizing eye drops to a part of my hand and using another eye shadow applicator I applied some glitter over it. Working in the exact same way as the fix plus, the drops made the glitter stick together and kept all of it in place so it didn't budge. This was also just as easy to wash off.

Moisturizing Eye Drops






I personally think using the eye drops was a better method and this will be what I'll use in the future. The fact that all the glitter was stuck together meant that there was no fallout which results in a cleaner makeup look and it will prevent you from getting glitter stuck in your pores, and trust me that can actually happen!

Colourful & Dramatic Everyday Look!

Hey! 

Just thought I'd throw this up here, this would be what my everyday make up would look like! I know, I know, it's a little out there and a little too much for everyday wear but that's just what I'm into. What can I say, I'm weird. 

Anyway, I'll put a full list of products used below the picture and a rough guide to how I did it! 

Please forgive how absolutely terrified my eye looks in this picture, it was early!

My inspiration for this look sort of came off the new Coldplay &Rihanna song "Princess of China". 

In a part of it, Rihanna's eye make up shows off a red edge and a blue wing. I just went with it from there. 

The colours are pretty vibrant and that's how I always like my eye make up to be and though I understand that maybe something so... out there... would not be everyone's cup of tea so I promise to put up some neutral but semi dramatic everyday make up looks too! 

In this look I used: 

• Essence white eyeliner. (As a base & on waterline). 
• Catrice Kohl Kajal eye liner pencil in blue. (For the under eye). 
• NYX [Yellow] "81 Chick". 
• NYX [Orange] "68 Golden Orange".
• NYX [Red] "109 Sunrise".
• Inglot [Blue] Eye Shadow Matte 322.
• Essence "I love style" Liquid eyeliner in black. 
• Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara. 

I always use white eyeliner as a base for any eye shadow look I'm doing. It's cheap (€1.50) it lasts me about a month and most importantly it works! It gives something for the eye shadow to stick to while also making any colour you use way more vibrant. 

White eyeliner is a good and cheap way out of buying really expensive eye shadow primer. Although in some cases, eye shadow primer can be the way to go if you want it to be super subtle. 

Tips:

• I found it easier to get the shape I wanted by starting from the under eye area. I just lined under the waterline and drew out, it gave me the shape that my eye goes without having to cross my fingers and hope that it's symmetrical. 
• When applying the top shadows, I started with the red and got the shape I wanted, then I went for the orange then yellow. This way I could blend them into each other getting the shades how I wanted them.
• Over all, the look is seriously overwhelming. So I used white eyeliner on my water line to make my eyes seem a little more open and less smothered under all the colours. This is also a helpful thing if you're doing black eye shadow. I would always use white eyeliner on my waterline! 

 Feel free to interpret this in whatever way you want, make the colours more subtle, make them more crazy. Your choice! I hope it helped!

Day to Night Look

An everyday makeup look can easily be transformed into a perfect look for a night out. This can be done by simply adding a bit of "edge" to something as simple as a bit of coloured eye shadow.
In this post I'm gonna show you how easy it is to alter simple looks to make them look a bit more dramatic and perfect for a night out!
(Featuring my little sister, Grace as our model)


Day Time Look


For this look on the skin I've used concealer to cover imperfections and BB cream as a substitute to foundation because it isn't as heavy on the skin, perfect for everyday wear. 
On the eyes I've used a light purple eye shadow that isn't too heavy and is also quick and easy to apply.
I finished off by filling in the eyebrows with a light brown eye shadow to frame the eyes. 

Night Time Look


I was able to add some "edge" to the look by simply darkening the purple eye shadow and adding some black to the outer corner and blending them together.
I also added some eye shadow underneath the eye to give it a more smoky effect.
I finished off with a few coatings of mascara and some clear lipgloss.

Voila, a simple guide on how you can turn your everyday makeup look into a night time look without having to wash it all off and start all over again. I hope this helped!
